Nashville Expands Strong Babies Program Countywide

Nashville's Strong Babies program now serves all Davidson County residents.

The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) announced on Thursday that the Nashville Strong Babies program, which is part of the community’s HRSA Healthy Start initiative, will now be available to all residents of Davidson County. This program provides care coordination, education, and various resources and services to new and expecting mothers from pregnancy until the baby reaches 18 months of age.

“We know we get strong babies, babies that are born at healthy birth weights and full gestation, when we have strong moms,” said D’Yuanna Allen-Robb, Assistant Bureau Director of Population Health at MPHD. “We get strong moms when we have strong families, communities, and policies.”

Initially introduced in 2019, the Nashville Strong Babies program was first implemented in seven zip codes with the highest infant mortality rates. Since its inception, it has supported over 1,300 families, with no maternal deaths reported. Additionally, there has been a five percent reduction in infant mortality rates across Davidson County since the program began.

Those interested in participating in the program can contact the Metro Public Health Department’s central referral line at 615-880-2187. More information on other family health initiatives is available on the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health page.
