The Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation’s Skate Park and Pump Track will officially open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, July 19th at 10 am at Old Fort Park. Following the ceremony, the skate park will be open daily from daylight to dusk. Until the opening, the area is closed to ensure all preparations are completed on time.
The Murfreesboro City Council approved the construction contract for the skate park and pump track with New Line Skateparks FL, Inc. on January 25, 2024. The park will be located at Old Fort Park, taking advantage of existing space, including an unused parking lot ideally suited for the new facility.
Mayor Shane McFarland expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the benefits of utilizing existing space within Old Fort Park. In 2021, the City conducted a feasibility study to determine the need and best location for the skate park, concluding that Old Fort Park was the optimal choice.
Recreational Services Executive Director Nate Williams noted that the skateboarding community has long requested such a facility. Construction is set to begin in 2024 with an anticipated completion by early fall of the same year.
New Line Skateparks FL, Inc. was awarded the $888,449 contract, which includes a 5 percent owner’s contingency for unforeseen issues to ensure the project remains on schedule. For more updates on the project, please visit this page.
