Murfreesboro Approves Skate Park and Pump Track Construction

Murfreesboro City Council approves contract for new skate park and pump track.

The Murfreesboro City Council voted on January 25, 2024, to approve the construction contract with New Line Skateparks FL, Inc. for a new skate park and pump track at Old Fort Park. A video of the ribbon-cutting and opening on July 19, 2024, is available here.

“We are excited to see the new skatepark and pump track open in Old Fort Park,” said Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland. “The open location has allowed the City to take advantage of existing space, including an unutilized parking lot in Old Fort Park which is ideally suited for the outdoor facility.”

In 2021, the City completed a feasibility study to assess the need for a skate park and potential locations for its development. The study identified Old Fort Park as the best location for the facility. The park will feature a street scape-style concrete park along with a pump track.

“This has been an amenity that our skating community has been requesting for a number of years,” said Recreational Services Executive Director Nate Williams. “We are happy to see it being utilized by the skateboarding and BMX community.”

New Line Skateparks FL, Inc was the lowest responsible bidder for the project. The $888,449 contract includes a 5 percent owners’ contingency to handle any unforeseen issues efficiently and keep the project on schedule.

The Skate Park’s location is where the old Pavilions #1 and #2 once stood. The City contracted Design firm Griggs and Maloney, Inc for design services in September 2022. In early 2023, Griggs & Maloney and Murfreesboro Parks held public meetings to discuss design options with the BMX and skateboarding community.
