MNPD Expands Online Reporting Program

MNPD broadens Citizen Online Reporting to include vandalism, identity theft, and theft from detached garages/sheds.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has expanded its Citizen Online Reporting program to encompass additional types of criminal activities. The newly included categories are vandalism, identity theft, and theft from detached garages or sheds.

Vandalism is defined as damage done to private or business property where no burglary or theft occurred or was attempted. Identity theft involves the theft of personal information that is used by a suspect to open credit cards, utilities, or obtain a social security card. Theft from a detached garage or shed refers to items stolen from a locked or unlocked detached garage or shed outside a residential location, excluding motor vehicles, items from motor vehicles, or items stolen from rental storage.

To file a report online, citizens can visit the How to File a Police Report Online page, where they can select the relevant category and upload still photos from home surveillance systems.

Not all incidents can be reported online. If the incident does not fall into any listed category, citizens are advised to call the Department of Emergency Communications at 615-862-8600 for non-emergencies. For emergencies, dialing 911 is recommended.

As of July 1, the MNPD Records Division has approved 1,659 citizen online incident reports and received 5,096 minor crash reports.
