Memphis Man Fatally Shot in Stolen Vehicle

Memphis man shot in stolen SUV during apparent robbery attempt.

Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a Memphis man late Sunday night at a parking lot on Hamilton Crossings Road. The victim, identified as 23-year-old London Montgomery, was found with gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a stolen Mercedes SUV after it crashed into a retaining wall.

The investigation indicates that Montgomery arrived in the stolen Mercedes just before 10 p.m. and parked next to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. One suspect exited the Jeep and briefly entered the Mercedes. Shortly thereafter, another suspect approached the Mercedes in what appeared to be a robbery attempt. As Montgomery attempted to drive away, one of the suspects fired several rounds, striking him. Montgomery continued driving for a short distance before crashing into a retaining wall. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspects fled the scene in the Jeep.

Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-24 West

Daniel Roberts, 39, of Murfreesboro, was identified as the fatality in a multi-vehicle crash on I-24 West. Preliminary reports suggest a Dodge Ram failed to stop in heavy traffic, causing a chain reaction involving three other vehicles. The driver of the Ram may have been distracted, with charges pending further investigation.
