Mayor Freddie O’Connell Responds to Metro Council Ruling

Mayor O’Connell welcomes the court's decision on the size of Nashville's Metro Council.

Mayor Freddie O’Connell has issued a statement regarding the recent court ruling on the size of Nashville’s Metropolitan Council.

“I’m pleased with the court’s decision to allow Nashville to have the authority to choose the size of its Metropolitan Council,” said Mayor O’Connell. He expressed gratitude to Director of Law Wally Dietz and his team for their excellent work throughout the litigation.

Mayor O’Connell emphasized that the Metro Charter grants Nashvillians the right to determine the size of their Metro Council. He noted that as recently as 2015, the community decisively concluded that a 40-member council is preferred.
