Vice Mayor Bill Shacklett acknowledged Tyrell Spivey and Matthew Miles from the Parks & Recreation Department as recipients of the STARS Award during the June 20, 2024, City Council meeting. These employees were honored for their leadership in cleaning up and reopening the Greenway after a flooding event.
The STARS Service Excellence program highlights employees who demonstrate exceptional service and uphold the city’s core values. The award aims to recognize and reward those who go above and beyond their usual job responsibilities to provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
A City employee nominated Spivey and Miles, noting that they “took charge and led a team to have the Greenway Trail cleaned and quickly reopened after major flooding and flood damage took place. This included coming in to work on a Saturday when not scheduled, delegating work, and leading by example.”
STARS stands for “Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence.” Recipients of this award are commended for representing the City positively, exhibiting core values, and improving the quality of life for citizens.
The nominations for the STARS Award are reviewed each month by a committee of City employees who then vote for the nominees.
Congratulations to Tyrell Spivey and Matthew Miles for being named STARS!
