Detectives are actively seeking Dandre Pruitt, 23, for questioning to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of his 3-year-old son, Aydeen Pruitt, on Wednesday night. The incident occurred at the family’s apartment located at 2071 Oakwood Avenue in East Nashville.
East Precinct officers responded to a call at 8:52 p.m., where they found the child with a gunshot wound to his head. Aydeen was immediately transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Aydeen’s mother informed detectives that she was in the kitchen when she heard a loud noise from the bedroom. Shortly after the noise, Dandre Pruitt reportedly ran out of the room and fled the apartment complex with the gun in a white Kia Soul.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is asking anyone with information regarding Dandre Pruitt’s whereabouts to call 615-862-8600. Additionally, the MNPD is reminding community members that free gunlocks are available at MNPD headquarters and all eight precincts during regular business hours. Gun owners are strongly encouraged to store their firearms safely, especially in households with children.
