Husband and Wife Involved in Murder-Suicide at Cane Ridge Parkway

A husband fatally shot his wife before killing himself at Cane Ridge Parkway apartment complex.

A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday night at an apartment complex on Cane Ridge Parkway, where a husband fatally shot his wife multiple times before taking his own life.

The victims have been identified as Tatayana Smith, 24, and Theodore Smith, 37. South Precinct officers responded to the Vintage Century Farms Apartments at 8:55 p.m. following reports of arguing, screaming, and gunshots outside one of the units. Upon arrival, officers discovered both individuals deceased.

Investigation and witness accounts revealed that Theodore Smith, who was preparing for his job as a local hotel security guard, asked his wife to step outside the hallway to speak. An argument ensued, and although a witness was able to briefly de-escalate the situation, Theodore soon pushed Tatayana into a corner and unholstered a semi-automatic pistol, shooting her multiple times. He then retrieved another pistol from the apartment and shot her several more times before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities confirmed that there was no prior history of domestic violence involving Tatayana and Theodore Smith with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD).
