Sergeant Trevor VonDohlen was seriously injured in a head-on collision on Bell Road.

Homicide Sergeant Trevor VonDohlen of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) was seriously injured in a head-on collision early this morning. The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Bell Road at Mt. View Road.

According to the investigation, a Toyota Camry, driven by Carlos D. Atilano, 26, of Antioch, veered into VonDohlen’s travel lane and struck his police Ford Edge SUV head-on. The impact resulted in the death of Atilano at the scene. Sergeant VonDohlen, 37, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital for treatment.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Camry was traveling south on Bell Road toward the interstate when it went over the right curb, veered back to the left, and into the northbound lane, causing the collision. At the time of the crash, Sergeant VonDohlen was en route to Creekview Drive to oversee an investigation into a reported suicide. His emergency equipment was not activated during the incident.

Sergeant VonDohlen is a 12-year veteran of the MNPD. Further updates on his condition and the ongoing investigation will be provided as they become available.
