The City of Knoxville has announced a comprehensive street cleaning operation for the Fort Sanders neighborhood, scheduled for two weekends in July 2024. The effort, known as the Fort Sanders Summer Roundup, will take place on July 13-14 and July 27-28, aiming to refresh street markings, replace signs, sweep streets, and remove trash and brush.
Fort Sanders, the city’s most densely populated neighborhood, requires all vehicles to be moved on the designated cleanup days to facilitate thorough cleaning. Any vehicles not moved will be towed to clear the streets for cleaning crews.
Mark Elliott, City Parking Manager, emphasized the importance of residents’ cooperation: “Fort Sanders has a very high demand for on-street parking, which complicates thorough sweeping and cleaning during the year. These weekends provide our best opportunity to refresh the neighborhood.”
The first cleanup weekend will focus on east-west streets on July 13-14. Specific streets include Grand, Forest, Highland, Laurel, Clinch, and White avenues. The operation will occur from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
The second weekend will address north-south streets on July 27-28, including 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 12th, 13th, 14th, James Agree, and 16th streets. Temporary no-parking signs and flyers will be distributed in advance to notify residents of the cleanup schedule.
