Canadian Neo-Nazi Protestor Arrested in Nashville

A Canadian neo-Nazi protestor was arrested for felony aggravated assault in Nashville.

Central Precinct officers in Nashville have arrested a Canadian protestor identified as Ryan Scott McCann, 29, for felony aggravated assault. McCann, who was carrying a Nazi flag, allegedly used the flagpole to strike a downtown bartender following a physical altercation between the bartender and members of the Neo-Nazi protest group.

McCann, from Ontario, Canada, faces additional charges of disorderly conduct. A judicial commissioner has set his bail at $81,000, requiring a source hearing before a Davidson County judge.

The incident occurred as a group of Neo-Nazi protestors, carrying Nazi flags and spreading white supremacist rhetoric, demonstrated on Broadway at 3rd Avenue. Police officers were present to monitor the group’s actions due to free speech considerations. As the group moved south on 3rd Avenue, a local bar employee, Deago Buck, 19, got involved in a physical confrontation with the protestors. During the separation of parties, McCann was seen striking Buck in the face and ribs with the flagpole.

Buck was also arrested on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting police, with his bond set at $2,000.

Chief John Drake condemned the actions of the Neo-Nazi group and commended the MNPD officers for their efforts in monitoring the situation.
