Alabama Resident Convicted of TennCare Fraud

Tina Lowe of Alabama was convicted for TennCare fraud and sentenced to probation and restitution.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) announced that Tina Lowe from Loxley, Alabama, has been convicted of TennCare Fraud. Lowe became the focus of a criminal investigation after the OIG received information suggesting she had misrepresented her household composition while living outside Tennessee, which is an eligibility requirement for TennCare benefits.

Lowe was convicted of one count of TennCare Fraud for misrepresenting her household composition and residing out of state while receiving TennCare benefits. She was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and ordered to repay $18,893 in restitution to the Division of TennCare.

The case was prosecuted by the Davidson County District Attorney’s office, led by District Attorney Glenn Funk, with Assistant District Attorney Amy Hunter serving as the lead prosecutor.

Inspector General Chad D. Holman stated, “The Office of Inspector General is diligent in our mission to identify, investigate, and seek the accountability of those that commit fraud or abuse against the TennCare program. The result of this investigation signifies our efforts to protect taxpayer dollars so that they can be utilized for those who truly qualify and rely on TennCare for medical benefits.”

Tennesseans are encouraged to report suspected TennCare fraud through the OIG Cash for Tips Program, which offers cash rewards for tips leading to convictions. Tennessee Podiatrist Sentenced for Health Care Fraud

Nathan Lucas, a 59-year-old podiatrist from Memphis, Tennessee, was sentenced to four years in prison for defrauding Medicare and TennCare by prescribing medically unnecessary foot bath medications, leading to over $3 million in reimbursements from October 2018 to September 2021.
