Public’s Assistance Needed to Identify Hit and Run Driver

Authorities seek help identifying a hit-and-run driver involved in a fatal collision.

Authorities in Nashville are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Saturday at 9 p.m. The incident resulted in the death of pedestrian Rene Choc-Caal, aged 47.

Choc-Caal was attempting to cross at the intersection of E. Thompson Lane and Lawndale Drive when he was struck by a white minivan. The vehicle is identified as a 1995 to 2000 Dodge Caravan, which has a nonfunctioning driver’s side headlight and possible damage to the driver’s side headlight area.

The white Dodge Caravan was later found abandoned on I-40 east between the Donelson Pike and Stewarts Ferry Pike exits. A Traffic Division officer discovered the van while on his way home. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
