Michael Linn White hosts the latest edition of “In the City,” showcasing a variety of events and activities happening in Murfreesboro. This month’s highlights include the Special Olympics “Torch Run,” the Saturday Market on the Square, bird watching at Murfree Springs, and firefighter training.

One of the key features is the “Torch Run,” which raises awareness and funding for the Special Olympics, culminating at MTSU’s Dean Track and Soccer Stadium for the Spring Games. The segment also covers the intense training Murfreesboro Fire Rescue firefighters undergo for Smoke Diver Certification, preparing them for real-life challenges. Bird watching at Murfree Springs Wetlands, led by Wildlife Biologist Susan Lanier, is another featured activity, emphasizing the importance of preserving wetlands. Murfreesboro City Schools also honored recent retired educators for their years of dedication with a special luncheon.
The creativity of young artists was showcased at City Hall during the City Schools art show, featuring artwork from across the district. Other topics include MPD Awards, the appointment of a new City Manager, and upcoming events like the Third Annual Community-wide Career Fair and Movies Under the Stars.

MTSU Hosts Recycling Roundup Event
Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) will host the Murfreesboro Recycling Roundup on Saturday, June 8th, providing the community an opportunity to recycle various items such as clothing, tires, toner cartridges, and mattresses from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the MTSU Rutherford Parking Lot.
