Quick action by Central Precinct officers on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. led to the arrest of the driver of an Infiniti sedan who entered Broadway from 4th Avenue South at a high rate of speed and performed a dangerous burnout maneuver. Due to heavy vehicular traffic, officers on foot were able to order him to pull over to the side of the street.
Mark Gist, 51, exited the car and was unsteady on his feet. He had slurred speech and glassy, watery eyes. Gist admitted to having consumed alcohol, and an open bottle of whiskey was found inside the vehicle. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and it was discovered that his driver’s license had been revoked.
Gist, of Nashville, is charged with DUI, reckless driving, and driving on a revoked license. He remains jailed on a $4,000 bond.
