A 55-year-old man was struck and killed by a CSX freight train in East Nashville late Saturday night. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) chaplains are currently working to notify his family.
Officers were dispatched to the railroad tracks half a mile north of the McGavock Pike crossing at 9:30 p.m. The train engineer reported that the train was moving at approximately 30 mph around a curve when he noticed a shadow on the tracks between the rails. Upon closer inspection, he realized the shadow was a person wearing dark clothing lying on the tracks. Unfortunately, the train could not stop in time to avoid impact.
There were no signs of foul play. The investigation into why the victim was on the tracks is ongoing.
