River Trace, located off State Route 12 (Ashland City Highway), experienced a rock slide on Wednesday, May 15, compromising the roadway and public safety. Although crews were able to clear the debris, the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT), out of an abundance of caution, decided to temporarily close the roadway to through traffic. Local residential traffic will still be permitted access.
NDOT, along with Geotech Engineers, conducted a preliminary analysis of the rock face along River Trace. The findings indicated that the remaining rock face is subject to further failure, due to multiple fissures observed in the rock formation.
The department is in communication with the Mayor’s Office, Metro Council, the Nashville Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and will inform local residents about the situation. Updates will be provided as further determinations are made.
