On Saturday, June 15, the Bradley Academy Museum and Cultural Center will host a Juneteenth Independence Day celebration, also known as “Freedom Day.” The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will extend across three blocks.
Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities, including a Kids’ Zone with free games and activities. Food vendors will be on-site, offering a range of culinary options, and artists will showcase their work. The celebration will also feature live music and dancing.
Bradley Academy has a rich history, originally built in 1806 as the first school for the education of white males only. In 1884, the school began admitting African American students, both male and female. The current structure, built in 1917, opened as the new school for African American students in 1918. Today, the Bradley Academy Museum and Cultural Center is managed by Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation.
