The investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding Thursday’s 11:40 p.m. fatal crash on I-40 West at the exit to Briley Parkway that claimed the life of Justin Fortner, 35, of Joelton.
The preliminary investigation shows that a group of motorcycle riders were attempting to exit onto Briley Parkway northbound followed by the driver of a Buick Enclave who was reportedly acting as a tail/buffer car. The Buick driver reported that a truck, possibly a semi, traveled around her and struck Fortner. This vehicle did not stop according to the driver of the Buick but continued north on Briley Parkway. Fortner was thrown from the motorcycle. The Buick Enclave also sustained significant front-end damage from impact with the motorcycle after the reported initial collision. Fortner died at the scene. Officers are working to corroborate the Buick driver’s account.
