The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced several construction projects and lane closures scheduled across East Tennessee from May 2 to May 8, 2024. These activities are part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the region’s roadway infrastructure. Motorists are advised to be prepared for potential delays and to exercise caution when traveling through construction zones.
In Blount County, US 129/SR 115 will undergo resurfacing from Tabcat Creek to the North Carolina State Line, and the SR 334 bridge over the CSX Railroad will see bridge repairs. Temporary lane closures and worker presence may affect traffic flow.
Campbell County’s I-75 will experience night-time lane closures for projects between Mile Markers 148 to 150 and 156 to 161. Similar closures will occur on SR 63 between Frontier Road/Woodson Lane and the Claiborne County Line.
Carter County will have signal upgrades and construction work on SR 67 that may lead to temporary lane closures. In Claiborne County, SR 63 will also face possible lane closures due to construction between the Campbell County Line and Hall Lane.
Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, and Jefferson Counties will see various projects including bridge repairs, roadway maintenance, and construction causing possible lane closures and traffic shifts. Motorists should be particularly cautious in these areas.
Knox County will witness significant activity with ramp closures on I-40, resurfacing projects on I-640, and various interstate maintenance activities throughout Knoxville. Projects on US 129/SR 115 Alcoa Highway will lead to lane closures and shifts, especially between Topside Road and Maloney Road, and between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail.
Roane, Scott, Sevier, Sullivan, Union, and Washington Counties are also listed with various construction projects ranging from bridge repairs to widening projects that will impact traffic flow and possibly cause delays. Lane closures and worker presence are expected in these areas as well.
For detailed project information and updates, motorists can visit the TDOT website or follow TDOT on Twitter for real-time traffic information in Knoxville and statewide. TDOT encourages drivers to use the SmartWay website for statewide interstate construction updates and traffic information.
Safety is a priority in all construction zones, and motorists are reminded to be vigilant for workers present, follow signed detours, and use extreme caution while driving through these areas. Adjustments to travel plans and routes may be necessary to avoid delays.
