In Murfreesboro, Tennessee, two men, Johnny Cross, 61, and Tedarreis Thompson, 33, are facing multiple charges following their arrest after allegedly robbing a Dollar General store. The incident, which led to a brief vehicle and foot pursuit by the police, occurred on April 30, 2024.
Johnny Cross was apprehended on Freedom Court after attempting to flee from the authorities. He has been charged with aggravated robbery, felony evading, misdemeanor evading, three counts of felony reckless endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident. Tedarreis Thompson was taken into custody on Winthorne Court, also after running from police. Thompson is facing charges for aggravated robbery, assault, vandalism, and interfering with an emergency 911 call. Additionally, he had an outstanding warrant for domestic assault.
The duo is accused of robbing the Dollar General located on Halls Hill Pike at gunpoint around 3:10 p.m. on the day prior to their arrest. The police were able to track the suspects’ getaway vehicle, an older model white Chevy Impala, with the assistance of Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology and crime data analysts.
A felony vehicle stop was attempted at the intersection of Northfield Blvd. and Memorial Blvd., but the driver accelerated away. Following a minor collision with another vehicle on Saddlebrook Dr., the car came to a stop at a dead end on Winthorne Dr., where both men exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.
The investigation into the robbery is ongoing. Both Thompson and Cross are currently detained at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Thompson’s bond has been set at $82,000, while Cross has a $112,000 bond. Court hearings for Thompson are scheduled for June 11 and June 18 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court, with Cross also appearing on June 18.
As the community reflects on the swift action taken by the police, the use of technology in apprehending suspects highlights the evolving strategies in law enforcement. The case continues to develop as the scheduled court dates approach.
