The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has released the weekly road construction report for the East Tennessee region covering April 18-24, 2024. The report includes information on lane closures, traffic pattern changes, and road work in several counties, including Blount, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Jefferson, Knox, Roane, Scott, Sevier, Sullivan, Union, and Washington.
Motorists are advised to be alert for workers present, expect potential delays, and use extreme caution when traveling through construction areas. Notable projects include the ongoing reconstruction of I-640 in Knox County, with lane reductions in place between Broadway and I-40, and the bridge replacement on SR 33 over Greasy Creek in Hancock County, which has the road closed and detoured.
Other projects involve roadway surface treatment, guardrail installations and repairs, signal upgrades, and bridge repairs. Most lane closures will occur during off-peak hours, such as overnight or between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., to minimize the impact on traffic. However, some projects, like the SR 70 bridge repair in Greene County, have temporary traffic signals controlling single-lane traffic around the clock.
