Tennessee National Guard Dedicates New Armory to Retired General

The Tennessee National Guard dedicated a new armory to Maj. Gen. Terry "Max" Haston.

The Tennessee National Guard dedicated a new armory to Maj. Gen. Terry “Max” Haston during a ceremony on April 13 in Morrison, Tennessee. The Major General Terry “Max” Haston National Guard Armory will serve as the new home for Troop F, 2nd Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, providing modern facilities and improved readiness for the unit.

Haston, a native of McMinnville, served in the military for over 40 years and retired in 2019 as Tennessee’s 75th Adjutant General, a position he held since 2010. Maj. Gen. Warner Ross, Tennessee’s current Adjutant General, praised Haston’s leadership and dedication to the state, the Tennessee National Guard, and Warren County.

The new armory spans 33,000 square feet and features energy-efficient equipment and green features to reduce operational costs. It offers improved administrative, training, supply, and storage rooms, as well as adequate parking for soldiers, visitors, and tactical equipment. The facility also includes a 5,600 square foot vehicle maintenance building.

The previous armory, built in 1957, was the oldest and smallest in the Tennessee National Guard at just over 11,000 square feet. The new project, approved by the Tennessee State Building Commission in July 2018, was funded by the federal government. Design House 1411, LLC, based in Nashville, designed the facility, while Sain Construction, located in Manchester, was awarded the construction contract. The project was completed in January 2024.
