The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) mobile household hazardous waste collection service will be available in Fayette, Franklin, and Washington counties on Saturday, April 20. Tennesseans are encouraged to bring household hazardous waste, such as cleaning fluids, pesticides, and swimming pool chemicals, to designated drop-off locations. Participation is open to all, regardless of county residence.
The drop-off locations and contacts are as follows:
– Fayette County: Fayette County Landfill, 11675 Hwy. 76 S., Somerville, 8 a.m.-noon. Contact: Terry Chambers, (901) 465-5230.
– Franklin County: Joyce Lane Recycle Center, 487 Joyce Lane, Winchester, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Contact: William Anderson, (931) 967-1139.
– Washington County: Daniel Boone High School, 1440 Suncrest Dr., Gray, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Contact: Lewis Haynie, (423) 753-1652.
Since its inception in 1993, the program has successfully disposed of more than 24 million pounds of material from over 373,000 Tennessee households through more than 1,500 one-day collection events. Household hazardous waste materials should not be placed with regular garbage due to their flammable, toxic, reactive, and/or corrosive properties.
While household waste disposal is free, there is a cost for Very Small Quantity Generator Waste from non-household sources. An appointment is necessary for this type of waste and can be scheduled by calling (615) 643-3170.
