Tennessee-based engineering and manufacturing corporation Protomet Corporation has announced plans to expand its footprint in East Tennessee by establishing operations in Rockwood. The company will create 250 new jobs and invest $25 million as it acquires and retrofits the former Albahealth building on North Gateway Avenue.
The new state-of-the-art facility in Roane County will join and support Protomet’s existing manufacturing operations in Loudon and Anderson counties. With the additional plant in Rockwood, Protomet will employ more than 500 Tennesseans.
Protomet Corporation, headquartered in Loudon, Tennessee, serves a diverse array of customers, including those in the automotive, boating, and homeland security industries. The announcement was made by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter, and Protomet Corporation officials.
Since 2020, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development has supported nearly 50 economic development projects in the East Tennessee region, resulting in approximately 9,000 job commitments and $2.6 billion in capital investment. The Protomet expansion builds upon the growth this region has experienced in 2023, with more than 3,400 jobs landed in the Greater Knoxville area.
