Man Killed in Early Morning Crash on I-24 Near Nashville

A 19-year-old Nashville man died in a single-vehicle crash on I-24 early Monday morning.

Kevonta Lane, 19, of Nashville has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred on I-24 near the Harding Place exit early Monday morning.

According to the investigation, Lane was driving a 2017 Infiniti Q50 westbound on I-24 when the vehicle veered off the interstate onto the right shoulder. The car then traveled into the grass and a wooded area before briefly going airborne and coming to a stop behind 561 Metroplex Drive.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. but was not reported until just after 4 a.m. Surveillance footage shows a sedan pulling into the parking lot of 561 Metroplex Drive shortly after the crash. Two individuals exited the vehicle, approached the crashed Infiniti twice, and then left the scene. Investigators are working to identify these individuals.

Lane was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Preliminary contributing factors appear to be excessive speed and failure to maintain the lane of travel. A relative of the victim received a call around 4 a.m. informing them of the crash and located the vehicle using a GPS app before calling 911.
