Upcoming Roadwork Affects Multiple East Tennessee Counties

East Tennessee counties face various road construction projects March 21-27, 2024.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced a series of road construction projects affecting several counties in East Tennessee from March 21 through March 27, 2024. These projects, which range from bridge repairs to roadway maintenance, are expected to impact traffic flow and may cause delays in the affected areas.

In Blount County, the SR 334 bridge over the CSX Railroad is undergoing repairs, which may lead to temporary lane closures. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for workers on-site.

Campbell County will see nightly temporary lane closures on I-75 North and South between Mile Markers 148 and 161. These closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, Sunday through Thursday. Additionally, SR 63 between Frontier Road/Woodson Lane and the Claiborne County Line will experience similar closures during daytime hours.

Carter County’s SR 67 at SR 37 is undergoing signal upgrades, potentially leading to temporary lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Another section of SR 67, between Log Miles 5.9 and 6.4, will also face closures at various times.

Claiborne, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Roane, Scott, Sullivan, Union, and Washington Counties are also on the list for upcoming construction activities. These include bridge repairs, sidewalk constructions, resurfacing projects, and lighting improvements, with some projects leading to road closures or lane reductions.

Notably, in Knox County, I-640 East and West will be narrowed from three lanes to two between Broadway and I-40 through a resurfacing rubblization project. This reduction will be in place around the clock, with potential delays expected. For more information on the I-640 project, visit TDOT’s project page.

Travelers and local residents can expect slowed or stopped traffic and should plan for potential delays. TDOT urges all motorists to be alert for workers present, follow signed detours where applicable, and exercise extreme caution when traveling through construction zones.
