Rutherford County is set to host a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, April 6, 2024. This environmentally friendly initiative provides residents with a safe way to dispose of various hazardous materials that cannot be thrown out with regular trash. The collection will take place at the City of Murfreesboro Solid Waste Department, located at 4765 Florence Road, Murfreesboro, from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.
This event is the only opportunity for residents to dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW) items at no charge. A detailed list of what items are considered acceptable and unacceptable for the collection can be found on the Rutherford County Solid Waste website. Participants should note that paint and electronic waste are not accepted at this collection event. Residents looking to dispose of electronic waste can do so at 1140 Haley Road in Murfreesboro, Monday through Thursday, and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The Household Hazardous Waste Collection service is available to any Tennessee resident for the disposal of hazardous waste from households. However, it is important to note that no commercial, institutional, or agri-business waste will be accepted. The event encourages all households in the area to participate and take advantage of this free service to ensure hazardous materials are disposed of properly, contributing to a safer and cleaner environment.
