This educational session is tailored specifically for newcomers to the business world, aiming to shed light on state tax obligations and provide a wealth of resources to support business success.

The webinar, which is part of a quarterly series for new businesses, will cover a range of essential topics. These include tax registration procedures, insights into sales and use tax, business tax, franchise and excise taxes, and guidance on how to seek assistance from the Department of Revenue and other relevant state agencies.

The Department of Revenue plays a crucial role in the administration of Tennessee’s state tax laws and motor vehicle title and registration laws. It is responsible for collecting approximately 87 percent of the state’s total revenue. In the fiscal year 2023, the department successfully collected $22 billion in state taxes and fees, in addition to over $4.6 billion in taxes and fees for local governments.
