The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday when a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 48-year-old Michael Fernandez of White House, veered across the double yellow line into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a Volkswagen Taos.

The impact of the collision forced the Volkswagen off the road, sending it down an embankment and through a fence before it came to a halt. The 54-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was rushed to Skyline Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Tragically, Michael Fernandez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Authorities have announced that toxicology tests will be performed to ascertain if impairment played a role in this fatal crash, as part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision.
