In a remarkable display of teamwork, officers from Midtown Hills, Central, Hermitage, and North Precincts, alongside Domestic Violence detectives, MNPD Aviation, and a Canine Unit, successfully apprehended 24-year-old convicted felon Jaymes Greer last night. This arrest followed a harrowing incident that began at a Mapco gas station on Old Hickory Boulevard, where Greer kidnapped and assaulted a female acquaintance.
The sequence of events unfolded when Greer entered the gas station, requesting to use the clerk’s telephone. Shortly after, he was seen entering a white Toyota Camry parked outside with a female inside. The gas station clerk witnessed a physical altercation between Greer and the woman before the vehicle hastily departed from the scene. The clerk promptly informed the police, mentioning that Greer appeared to be armed and left his wallet in the parking lot, which greatly aided in his identification.
Police were able to quickly verify that Greer had several outstanding warrants. With the help of the Camry’s registration, which was in the victim’s name, her family could assist the police in tracking her location. As law enforcement pursued the vehicle, a Glock pistol was discarded from the Camry into a storm drain, an event observed by officers as well as MNPD Aviation.
The pursuit concluded when Greer attempted to flee on foot from the vehicle on Haynes Street. He was subsequently arrested and taken to Skyline Medical Center for a non-life-threatening stab wound on his back, which he claimed was inflicted by the victim during the altercation.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old female victim was discovered in the Camry a few streets away. She had managed to escape from Greer and was immediately taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The medical examination revealed she suffered extensive facial injuries, including several broken bones and missing teeth.
Upon his arrest, Greer was booked on his outstanding warrants related to an unrelated domestic assault and a felony probation violation. He now faces additional charges, including especially aggravated kidnapping, evading arrest, and two counts of felony weapon possession.
Greer is currently detained, with his bond set at $122,500. This case underscores the dangers of domestic violence and the effectiveness of swift law enforcement action in protecting the community.
